The research

Why we built Build your Biz

Short version: tradies were losing a full working day every week to paperwork before they'd even sent an invoice for the work they actually do. We thought that was fixable.

The problem, in numbers

Every good business decision starts with a number that bothers you. Here's the one that started this business:

7–12hours a week the average Australian tradie spends on admin
10.5hours a week small business owners spend on admin, industry-wide
44hours a week worked by sole traders and small operators, on average

Figures drawn from Xero's Small Business Insights research and Australian Bureau of Statistics data on hours worked by small business operators.

Add it up over a year and it's somewhere between 350 and 600 hours — the better part of two months, spent on invoicing, chasing payments, quoting, and the kind of admin that has nothing to do with the trade itself. None of it requires a trade skill. All of it has to happen anyway.

The paperwork isn't hard. It's just relentless, and it lands on the one part of the week that was supposed to be yours.

Where it hits hardest: the very start

That admin burden is bad enough once a business is running. It's worse in the first few weeks, before a single invoice has gone out — because that's when a tradie has to become a registration clerk, a web designer, a bookkeeper and an IT department, all at once, usually in evenings after a full day on the tools.

A proper setup done the traditional way — an agency for the website, a separate registration service, a trip to a bank for a merchant account, hours reading government sites to work out what "sole trader" actually means — easily stretches into weeks, and easily costs several thousand dollars before a single customer has paid a cent.

What we built instead

Build your Biz answers 15 simple questions and turns them into a working business: registration guided step by step, a website built for your trade, a business email, a quoting and invoicing app configured and ready, card payments, a booking calendar, and a Google listing — all connected, all in your name, for one flat price.

How the build actually works

What used to take weeks of evenings and several thousand dollars now takes a handful of days and one flat, upfront price — because software does the repetitive part, and a tradie's time goes back to being spent on the tools, not on a laptop at 11pm.

The bit we're honest about

We don't automate everything, and we won't pretend to. Government identity checks mean the registration step has to be you — not us, not software. Everything else, we handle. We think that's a fair trade for getting a business fully set up in days instead of months.

Answer 15 questions. We build the rest.
